Brose Bamberg loses the first quarter-final playoff game 69:83 at the Giants Ludwigsburg – and still goes confidently into game two on Friday.

After all, Johan Roijakkers remained a positive finding after the first playoff quarter-final game at the Giants Ludwigsburg: “We weren’t that far away.” That didn’t change the 69:83 defeat of his Bamberg basketball players, which placed the mortgage on the nine-time German champions that he should win the second away game this Friday (8.30 p.m.), so as not to give the Swabian three match points in the best-of -five series to enable. Especially in the game under the baskets, Ludwigsburg was superior, 20 offensive rebounds made the decisive difference, as Roijakkers said: “You can’t win a game with that.”
The guests in the first quarter provided the pattern of how to beat the first round: Bamberg defended aggressively, hit his throws with a high percentage and surprised the initially nervous favorite. Brose hurried 17: 7 before Ludwigsburg fought back into the game. In the second quarter the favorite found his fast game, in this phase the lack of Bamberg’s best was painfully noticeable. Devon Hall, who broke his wrist, is the Bamberg native who can keep his team in the game at such moments with his individual class. Neither Bennet Hundt nor Tyler Larsson could fill the gap, only Kenneth Ogbe held against it with an aggressive game and 16 points.
After a 33:42 half-time deficit, Brose came within striking distance again shortly before the end of the third quarter (50:53), the forces were not enough for more. In contrast to Bamberg, the Ludwigsburg Guards showed an impressive performance, especially playmaker Jaleen Smith, the most valuable player in the league, scored 21 points. “The good thing is that we can continue playing tomorrow,” said Ogbe, referring to Friday. He is firmly convinced “that we can steal game two”.
