Patrick Vandenrhijn Resigns as CEO of Bdtronic After 23 Years: What’s Next for the Limburg CEO?

Patrick Vandenrhijn, a native of Genk who has been CEO of the German Bdtronic for 23 years, resigned from his position on January 1. He wants to take things a little easier and thus concludes his impressive track record.

Bdtronic is a subsidiary of the listed Max Automation, and active in the production of high-tech machines for the automotive industry. Patrick Vandenrhijn started working there in 1997 and became CEO in 2000. He was also Managing Director of the listed holding company for a while. Under his leadership, the company grew from about 30 people to 580 colleagues and turnover increased from 3 million euros to 120 euros. Vandenrhijn also expanded his management with other Limburgers, who helped build the success of the German machine manufacturer.

But now the Genk resident is taking a step aside. He passes on the torch as CEO, but remains a director and member of the advisory board. “It was after a terrible mountain bike accident that my doctors advised me to take it easy,” he says. “At the same time, I had to say goodbye to a number of dear colleagues and friends from my network, which influenced my decision. I therefore want to stop on a high note and am confident that my successors will continue on the path they have chosen.”

What does the future hold for the Limburg CEO? “In addition to my duties as a director, I continue to write columns for Trends Magazine,” he says. “I also want to take on an advisory role in other companies. On a personal level, I will organize events in the region around Mont Ventoux, where I can combine my passions for wine, gastronomy and cycling. A new life has begun, and that is where I am very happy with it,” concludes Patrick Vandenrhijn.
