Lisa Niemi Swayze, the former wife of the late actor Patrick Swayze, recently revealed that she faced criticism from devoted fans of the “Dirty Dancing” star after she remarried following his death in 2009. Speaking on the “Amy and T.J. Podcast”, Lisa, 67, reflected on the negative feedback she received for falling in love with her current husband, Albert DePrisco, in 2014. She mentioned that some of Patrick’s fans accused her of being evil, simply because she had been married to him.

Lisa admitted that the criticism had a profound impact on her, stating that she received a “lot of flack” for moving on. Despite the negativity, she expressed her love for Patrick and defended her decision to find happiness in her life again.
She shared, “Yes, I got a lot of flack – it’s like, ‘How dare you.’ There are some pretty rabid Patrick fans out there who think I’m evil, just don’t like me because I was married to him. So there was a lot of flack that came on that, a lot of criticism, and you just learn to deal with it and move on. But it’s like – I was so tempted so many times to say, ‘Hey, girlfriend, stand in my shoes, tell them about it. Go ahead – tell me just because I lost my husband that I don’t love him anymore.'”
Lisa emphasized that her love for Patrick remains intact even after getting remarried. She mentioned a dream she had in which Patrick reassured her that their relationship was still strong. She viewed this as a blessing and a sign that her love for Albert did not diminish her love for Patrick.
A Lasting Relationship
Lisa and Patrick first met as teenagers at his mother’s ballet school in Houston, Texas. The couple got married in 1975 and stayed together until Patrick’s passing.
Regarding her current marriage, Lisa explained that it hasn’t changed her love for Patrick in any way. She still feels his presence and has a deep emotional connection with him. Lisa and Albert were fortunate to find each other and continue to share their love.
Reflecting on her journey, Lisa shared, “Just because you lose a loved one doesn’t mean you stop loving, and you don’t have that love to give. And I think Albert and I were fortunate to find someone to give that love to.”
