After deadly incidents caused, on Sunday, July 31, 2022, by a contingent of peacekeepers from the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) at the Kasindi border post in North Kivu , the Congolese Government has stepped up to denounce what it describes as unacceptable acts.
“MONUSCO’s main mandate is the protection of civilians. We cannot allow blue helmets to fire at point-blank range and in cold blood on the population they are supposed to protect. », castigated the Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, during a press conference held on Tuesday August 2, 2022 in Kinshasa. He was accompanied, during this accountability exercise, by the Ministers of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Actions and National Solidarity, Modeste Mutinga, and that of Industry, Julien Paluku.
On this occasion, the Congolese Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, once again deplored the serious incidents in Kasindi.
According to him, the blue helmets who were involved in it will no longer be part of MONUSCO.
For his part, the Congolese Minister of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Actions and National Solidarity, Modeste Mutinga, thanked the Head of State and the Prime Minister for their wisdom and insight in dispatching a delegation on the spot to immerse themselves in the situation. on the ground. He also reassured of the Government’s assistance to the victims, in particular the bereaved families and the injured from the incidents.
“There was assistance for the organization of the funeral both in Goma and in Butembo”he said.
According to Minister Modeste Mutinga, the central government is continuing its efforts to strengthen assistance for the populations who are victims of the latest unfortunate incidents in the eastern part of the country.
