“It’s really great and I appreciate it,” Mahomes said in a video shared to X by the NFL. There are so many good players in our league. The fact that they elected me as number 1 is an accomplishment that I will never forget.

This is the second time Mahomes has inherited the top spot in the standings; he also received this honor in 2021. Last year, the 27-year-old center won his second Super Bowl, in addition to being crowned NFL Most Valuable Player. In the regular season, he amassed 5,250 passing yards and 41 touchdowns. He also had 358 yards and four majors on carries.

Mahomes isn’t the only Chiefs member to make the top 5 in the player-voted rankings, as tight end Travis Kelce finished the poll fifth overall.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa are second, third and fourth, respectively.
