Kansas City Chiefs are known for their unusual offensive moves under the creative leadership of coach Andy Reid. But star quarterback Patrick Mahomes could imagine a surprising source of inspiration: pop icon Taylor Swift.
In an interview with NBC, Mahomes joked that Swift is very interested in football and is already drawing up plays. “She’s asking a lot of smart questions and is already drawing up plays. Maybe we’ll have to actually implement one of them,” Mahomes said with a wink.
It is widely known that Swift, a Chiefs superfan, has attracted attention through her relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and often watches the games from a private box with Mahomes’ wife Brittany. However, the 14-time Grammy winner and 40-time American Music Award winner is much more than just a casual observer.
Mahomes emphasized Swift’s seriousness and commitment. “It’s amazing to see how much girls and women are excited about football. As a father of a daughter, I think it’s great to see little girls spending time with their dads playing football and enjoying it.”
Mahomes was particularly impressed by Swift’s authenticity. “It was special for me to get to know her and see how genuine and cool she is. She’s the most famous person in the world and she could easily be different.”
Mahomes’ warm words about Swift came during a 25-minute conversation with Chris Simms about the Chiefs’ upcoming season and the quarterback’s career. During the conversation, Mahomes also praised Reid’s leadership style within the team, which helps the players focus on football despite the increasing media attention.
Mahomes also spoke of Kelce’s authenticity and tireless work ethic, which have already brought the team two Super Bowl victories and almost certain Hall of Fame honors. Despite all the speculation about Swift’s possible role within the team, it remains unlikely that coach Reid will be replaced by the pop sensation any time soon, even if her enthusiasm is contagious.
“He’s the best,” Mahomes said of Reid. “He’s one of the best coaches of all time, especially when it comes to offensive strategies. The way he keeps presenting us with new plays and movements keeps us interested week after week. That’s just unique.”
