Patrick Kane’s Contract Status and Potential Return for the 2023-2024 NHL Season

An unrestricted free agent, Patrick Kane may not sign a contract with an NHL team before the start of the 2023-2024 season, according to his agent Pat Brisson.

Kane, 34, had to undergo hip resurfacing on June 1 and could miss four to six months of action.

“We must first make sure that he is 100% and that he feels good. Then we could decide where he goes,” Brisson told ESPN on Thursday. “There will be plenty of teams that will do well, others that will do poorly, and teams that will be affected by injuries. »

“We will then decide where to go. I don’t think many people will decline his offer. »

Kane completed his final season with the New York Rangers after being traded there by his longtime club in a three-team trade with the Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes.

The 5’10 winger has 21 goals and 57 points in 73 games. He added 6 points in seven playoff games before the Rangers were eliminated by the New Jersey Devils in the first round.

“I’ll be 35 next year, but I don’t feel old,” Kane said shortly after Rangers were sent off. “I feel quite young and the passion is still there. I know I can be a top player when my focus is on hockey. »

Brisson isn’t concerned about Kane’s health.

“He is already ahead in his rehabilitation process right now,” he says. “I’m still cautious, but I’m very confident too. I sincerely believe that he will return to his usual level. »
