Friday December 1, Patrick Bruel braved the Belgian cool to go to the Koekelberg basilica in Brussels. The reason for his coming? It was in this building that the’Invisible Youth European Summit“an event which aims to highlight young people who too often go under the radar, who are forgotten or underestimated by society. Think for example of young homeless people, those who are orphans, victims of violence, refugees or seriously ill”, we can read on the official Instagram account of the Belgian royal family. Like several personalities, such as Axelle Red and Black M, the singer of the hit “Place des grands hommes” joined more than 1 000 young people aged 15 to 21 to discuss these very important subjects.
During this day, Patrick Bruel also met the queen Mathilde of Belgium, who did the honor of her presence at this summit, alongside the Brussels Minister-President, Rudi Vervoort, and the Walloon Minister-President, Elio Di Rupo. The French singer was thus immortalized in the act of shake hands warmly of the wife of Philippe of Belgium. A certainly moving moment for the 64-year-old artist himselfsensitive to the cause of the youngest. As proof, last March, he returned to school to promote his latest album, entitledOnce again.

“It’s always moving for me”
Patrick Bruel owes this particular relationship to youth and the school environment in particular to his mother, who was a school teacher. “My mom was a teacher and we lived in the staff accommodation of the Jean-Jaurès school in Argenteuil. It was a girls’ school; I went to the Jules-Guesde school right next door. Return to a school, it’s always moving for mei”, he confided to theParisianlast March, during his visit to the Chaptal comprehensive school, located in Paris in the 9th arrondissement. And added with emotion: “I know all the work that is done outside of school. I saw my mother working after classes ended at 4:30 p.m., sometimes to the detriment of her family life. Today, there is a need to promote the teaching profession.” This immersion with young people then gave him balm in his heart, as he admitted to our colleagues: “It means a lot to me, it gives me hope. When people tell me that we don’t read and that the school is doing badly, I invite everyone who thinks so to go and look at the schools. A few days ago, we went to a deprived area of Lilleand it was exciting.”
