An alarm has been raised in Patras, after a case of meningitis in a school.
According to information yesterday Thursday 24/10 a student fainted during the lesson and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
The student is being treated at the Agios Andreas hospital with meningitis as revealed by the tests she underwent.
The doctors immediately informed the school unit which decided for preventive health reasons to remain closed. This is the school complex that houses the 6th and 2nd EPAL of Patras.
The student is hospitalized in the ICU – her health condition is critical
The state of health of the 6th grade EPAL student who is being treated in the ICU of the Agios Andreas hospital is considered particularly critical.
The girl fell ill with meningitis (see here the types and symptoms displayed by those who are ill) and at the same time, according to what the deputy regional health minister, Anna Mastorakou, points out on dete.gr, she is suffering from pneumonia.
“At the moment we are in search of the microbe and the cause that caused the girl’s illness. We are thus waiting for the results of the examinations, so that we can then make the corresponding decisions”.
They are looking for the student’s contacts
At the same time as the girl’s examinations, the girl’s contacts and his close environment are already being traced.
According to Mrs. Mastorakou, the girl’s close contacts are her classmate who sat next to her at the same desk and the people of the patient’s family environment.
“The number of her contacts is relatively small. But what I want to underline in case someone from the school or in general from her environment shows symptoms of fever, rashes or fainting then they should rush to the hospital.
There is no need to panic, what is needed is composure and the correct and coordinated movements from all of us.” We note that the 6th and 2nd EPAL schools (co-located) until at least until Tuesday, depending on the results of the tests that will show the causes of the microbe.
