“Beds in medical facilities are likely to be occupied soon by patients with covid-19 who need more intensive care. However, we cannot resign ourselves to providing healthcare for other patients. Therefore, Masaryk University offers premises that are not currently used due to the epidemic and which can be quickly adapted to the needs of hospitals, “said Bareš.

“Due to the expected significant increase in the number of patients, other cities are also creating capacity reserves. The management of the Faculty of Sports Studies and the university joins institutions that are ready to help in a crisis situation, “said the dean of the faculty Jan Cacek, adding that the pavilion with gyms is closely adjacent to the Brno University Hospital and can provide separate access to gyms and other areas. campus, which are used for scientific, research or other activities.

In total, there are more than 1,500 m2 of gyms, including locker rooms and sanitary facilities.

MU has been trying to put its hand to work in managing the pandemic for a long time since the spring. The volunteer center “MUNI helps” has been in contact with hospitals since the spring, co-organized the help of medics in taking covid-19 tests at collection points at the University Hospital Brno, but also volunteers from other faculties to work in administration, babysitting and tutoring children paramedics or in cooperation with the city of Brno also in contact centers for homeless people.
