Hospitals continue to see an increase in the number of patients affected by Covid.

The number of beds occupied by patients infected with the coronavirus is still on the rise. Good news though, intensive care is on the decline.
Between January 15 and January 21, there were an average of 271 patients admitted to hospital and positive for Covid-19, an increase of 43% compared to the previous reference period. In total, 2,851 people are still hospitalized due to Covid-19, including 364 patients treated in intensive care (-11%), said Sciensano, the public health institute, on Saturday. On Friday, 2,736 people infected with the coronavirus were hospitalized.
What is the evolution of Covid contaminations in Belgium?
Between January 12 and 18, 35,975 new infections to Sars-CoV-2 were tested on average per day, an increase of 49% compared to the previous week. There were 31,780 new infections on Friday, 28,252 on Thursday and 27,761 on Wednesday.
The reproduction rate of the virus is 1.29 (+23%). When it is greater than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to accelerate.
What is the death toll?
During this period, nearly 22.1 people died per day on average from the virus (+10%), bringing the death toll to around 28,800 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.
