Patient infected with coronavirus will be treated at Intermountain hospital in Murray – Telemundo Utah

The Intermountain Healthcare Medical Center announced Friday night that Mark Jorgensen tested positive for the coronavirus and has been admitted to “a special unit, separate from the hospital and designed for high-level isolation” that is only available in certain hospitals in the country. Representatives of the medical center assure that it is a unit with independent access, water and air filtration.

The highest health authority in the country (the Centers for Disease Control or CDC) has asked this hospital to receive Jorgensen to be treated in this specialized unit.

Representatives of the medical center also added that the treatment for Jorgensen, who was infected during a cruise in Japan with COVID-19 (official name of the virus), presents no threat to the health of the residents of the valley. This resident of St. George, arrived at the specialized medical center this Friday night, after being in quarantine at Travis Air Force in California.

“Intermountain will continue to work closely with the CDC and the Utah Department of Health to address this problem and take all precautions to keep the patient, our caregivers and the community safe,” the statement said.

At the press conference organized by Intermountain Medical Center, health authorities revealed that Jorgensen has not manifested symptoms of the disease and claims to feel “perfectly normal” despite having tested positive for the coronavirus.

Dr. Todd Vento of the infectious diseases division for Intermountain was talking to the media and asks the community not to be alarmed.

Vento said that “the methods used to transport Mark were safe not to spread the virus in the state, he was transferred by military aircraft to Utah and then by specialized vehicles transported to the hospital.”

Epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn of the Utah Department of Health reiterated in this same press conference that the health risk for residents of the state from contracting the COVID-19 virus is still low.

We will have more information shortly.

Thank you for preferring Telemundo Utah.
