Patient in India Dies, Asia’s First Death from Monkeypox

VIVA WorldIndia have confirmed death first consequence monkey pox specifically in the southern state of Kerala.

A 22-year-old man with a history of travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) died on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at a private hospital in the city of Thrissur, a minister in the state confirmed it on Monday, August 1, 2022.

This case is the first death in Asia from the disease and the fourth reported death from the disease monkeypox ‘monkey pox’ which is spreading all over the world.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed on Monday that her sample was confirmed positive for monkeypox by the Alappuzha City unit of the country’s National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Kerala.

Health authorities have isolated 20 people identified as high-risk close contacts of the dead man. These people include family members, friends and medical staff who may have come into contact with him.

“A boy was returning from the UAE on July 22 he was with his family when on July 26 later he developed a fever and was admitted on July 27,” George told reporters quoted from the Independent, Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

The patient was put on a ventilator a day later and died on July 30, 2022. He also added that the samples sent to the NIV showed that the man tested positive for monkeypox.
