GOYANG, March 03 (Yonhap) – A patient in a long-term care hospital suffering from several underlying illnesses died on Wednesday after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine against the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), announced the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).

The 50-year-old patient was vaccinated Tuesday morning at Goyang Hospital, just northwest of Seoul.

The patient began to show symptoms of heart failure and difficulty breathing in the afternoon, but recovered after being placed in emergency care.

The symptoms reappeared on Wednesday morning before the patient’s death.

The KDCA said it had not yet determined whether the patient suffered side effects from the vaccine.

The patient’s pre-existing medical condition included heart problems, diabetes, and a stroke.
