Liverpool –
Manchester City have to be extra patient when dismantling defenses Everton. In the end the Citizens won 2-0 and qualified for the the FA Cup semifinals.
City visited Goodison Park on Sunday (21/3/2021) early morning WIB, facing Everton. This is an important duel for City in order to maintain a clean sweep of the title this season.
Lowering several second tier players, City is still too tough for Everton. Unfortunately, City were made difficult by Everton from the early minutes.
Recorded BBC, City has 15 attempts with six on goal and controls 74 percent ball possession. Leaving only 26 percent for Everton, this is his opponent’s lowest ball possession record since March 2018.
Even so, City’s waves of attacks were always broken by Everton’s defense, before the deadlock broke in the 84th minute when Ilkay Guendogan broke through Everton’s net. Kevin De Bruyne solidified City’s 2-0 victory in the 90th minute.
City also qualified for the FA Cup semifinals for three consecutive seasons and still have the chance to win four titles this season. The win was a relief for manager Pep Guardiola, because Everton were so difficult.
“A very difficult match. We see Everton are so committed, very focused, they are very aggressive in defense,” said Guardiola as quoted by BBC Sport.
“We are not even attacked at all and we are very patient. This is our hardest match in the last four months. Our hardest match after the international break,” he continued.
“Tonight was very difficult, they have experienced players when holding the ball with two other players ready to strike back. Extraordinary commitment from the players. This victory is very solid,” concluded P.ep Guardiola.
