Pathanamthitta: The main accused Pathanamthitta V. was arrested in various fraud cases, including the long appointment bribery to the office of Minister Veena George. Akhil Sajeev (33), a native of Kottayam, was remanded to police custody for five days. Akhil, who was the office secretary of CITU, was arrested from Theni in Tamil Nadu in a case of embezzling Rs.3.60 lakh from the Pathanamthitta district committee office account.
On Saturday morning, Sajeev was produced in Pathanamthitta Judicial 1st Class Magistrate’s Court and the police released him in custody. The case was taken 15 months ago in connection with fraud in the CITU office. He was of the view that there was no need to pressurize the case as he had recovered three lakhs of the lost Rs 3.60 lakhs.
Another case is that he extorted four lakh rupees from Akhila, a classmate and a native of Omallur, by promising her an appointment in the CITU Spices Board. Akhil Sajeev’s name is the main accused in connection with the recruitment scam related to the office of Health Minister Veena George. Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment Police has sought preliminary information from Akhil in this regard, but no arrest has been made.
Akhil, who is currently in Pathanamthitta police custody, can be taken into custody only when he is brought back to court. Akhil Sajeev has told the police that he has no involvement in the recruitment bribery scam in the health department and that he does not know Haridas, a resident of Malappuram, and Akhil Mathew, a member of the personal staff of Minister Veena George, has no involvement in the transaction.
