NEW JERSEY – Police investigating multiple car thefts in New Jersey have opened fire and killed a suspected thief behind the wheel of a stolen car, law enforcement sources said.
Sources involved in the case said police were investigating reported car thefts in Paterson near Van Houten Street on Monday afternoon. The agents tracked down the suspect, who ended up being shot.
The area was sealed with duct tape after 5pm as investigators worked on the scene. It is not clear what prompted the police to open fire.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office will conduct the investigation.
