“Patches: The World’s Fattest Cat Gets New Owner and Strict Diet”

18.3 kilos dry on the hook: Patches is widely regarded as the world’s fattest cat currently walking the planet. However, since the four-legged friend has found a new owner, he has to stick to a strict diet. And with result, a small kilogram has already been lost. “Actually, he is quite picky,” it sounds.

Patches became a real sensation after he was put up for adoption last month by an animal shelter in Richmond, Virginia. His previous owner could no longer care for him, so a new owner was allowed to take on the challenge.

Especially human food?

After the necessary tests, the colossus turned out – strangely enough – to be perfectly healthy. But that weight clearly needs to be addressed. At over 18 kilos, Patches weighs more than an average four-year-old child.

The director of the animal shelter suspects that Patches was mainly served human food in the past. “However, he is not a glutton. On the contrary, he is rather picky,” says Christy Peters.

“Inspire each other”

Kay Ford applied to nurse Patches for a special reason. “I am not extremely fat, but I would like to lose the nine kilos that I gained during the pandemic. Maybe we can go on a diet together and inspire each other. Since I am retired, I have enough time to achieve all goals. The last weighing already shows that she is on the right track.

The absolute record for ‘fattest cat in the world’ is held by Australia’s Himmy. That four-legged friend reached no less than 21.3 kilograms in 1986. That same year he would die at the age of ten. In 1998, the Guinness Book of Records removed that title to prevent owners from deliberately fattening their pets.
