Pastouret Family Transfers Power to Bellagarda: New Era for Nîmes Wine Estate

The transfer of power is underway between the Pastouret family and Bellagarda at the end of the year.

By the end of the year, the transfer of power will be recorded between the family Pastouretnamed after this Costières de Nîmes wine estate located in Bellegarde, route de Jonquières, and the new buyers, the Bellegarda company.

A new story will be written on this 50-hectare organic site since 1993. Michel Pastouret, a wine-growing figure, will not retire as he will operate the Tour estate in Manduel with nine hectares of vines and asparagus. .

Martinican farming family

For his part, Mathieu Pastouret, the son, becomes operating manager of the estate at Bellegarde, which completes the competent team with which Bellegarda wants to work. Pascal Ferrier, who joined this company with the Martinican agricultural group of the Aubery family, well established in the West Indies, made contact with the Pastourets a year ago.

He explains the reasons for this choice: “It is an agricultural region with high potential, with the right temperatures, access to water, good land and organic farming property. These lands in Costières de Nîmes are well located , at the crossroads. Michel Pastouret’s approach, the quality of his structure, his ingenuity, his vision of work made us want it.”

Pascal Ferrier, who worked in other latitudes on tropical crops, and the Aubery family, whose choice fell on a wine-growing establishment, diversification in mainland France, found themselves on the values of the Pastouret with the development of organic.

Extended range

Michel Pastouret was also won over: “It’s going very well. We were approached by other buyers who offered more money. But we chose a farming family who had good peasant common sense. Everything was done in symbiosis.”

There is no shortage of projects for the new owners of the domain. Pascal Ferrier says more: “It’s a tool that works well with a well-established organic market. We want to expand the range and make progress. Currently, there are two reds, a rosé and a white. We will build on this. by aiming for higher levels with premium and super premium. We work with a large oenological laboratory in the region. There is a range of offers with the grape varieties that exist on the estate.”

And the buyer continues: “We are carrying out work on plots, highlighting a typical grape variety here: Clairette de Bellegarde, a little forgotten in terms of taste and communication. We must tend towards fresh whites, adapt to drought. The Pastouret estate will have no shortage of projects to respond to new markets and the consumption desires of a younger and female audience. It’s up to the new owners to grasp the full potential of this very special terroir.

Bellagarda is preparing its communication for the end of January with the organic vintage, working behind the scenes on the new range, on the boxes, the packaging, the labels. Enough to hold many surprises and be worthy of the succession of the Pastouret family in Costières de Nîmes.
