At the beginning of February the pastor Daniel from Wieselburg kicked Kostrzycki still in the ranks of the Austrian international priest team at the EM in Prague. A month later, chills, high fever and a strong cough forced the man of God to bed for weeks. Now that he had regained his strength after he had recovered from Corona, he did not miss the opportunity to make his blood enriched with Covid antibodies available for the treatment of others.
“You are our first,” was Kostrzycki in the blood bank of the university hospital St. Polten welcomed as a premiere covid plasma donor. In the blood bank itself, however, the priest is no stranger. He has already contributed more than 90 times as a blood donor.
“I cannot reconstruct where I got infected. I dont know. But I am happy to be able to help other people with my blood after I have survived the illness, ”said Kostrzycki.
Not admitted to the test
His medical history has dramatic features. So he called a parish council meeting at the beginning of March, although he felt slightly sickly. After the meeting started, he stopped it because he did not want to infect the participants with the supposed flu. When fever and chills developed in the days that followed, he was repeatedly reassured with three calls to the Covid hotline 1450 and not approved for a corona test. The family doctor treated him with antibiotics, and only after a week of serious illness was the priest tested positive for Covid-19.
The period of illness was doubly hard for the dean. In the middle of the Easter preparations, it did not only happen in his parish Wieselburg, but also in his dean’s office Ybbs to diseases. Brothers and co-workers also had to be quarantined because of him.
