She noted that there is no urgent need for revision of transliteration now, but such reconciliation should be carried out periodically.
“From time to time, such rules need to be revised. The international standard and the Ukrainian language in the international transliteration standard are present, dated 1995. This is an international standard transliteration table, it is obvious that it will not be revised in the near future. Will we revise? No”, – explained Demskaya.
According to the head of the National Commission, Ukraine will once again check whether our transliteration practices are consistent with international ones. And if everything is in order, they will be left as they are. If there are any changes, then they are simply unified with international standards.
She added that the check is needed in order to see how harmonized or not harmonized with international standards and correct as necessary. This is due to the fact that transliteration is focused on the international vector of Ukraine.
“How it will come out in practice – let’s see what decisions the commission will make, what the recommendations of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language will be. According to the law, the commission should discuss its decisions with the Institute of the Ukrainian Language, other scientific institutions that deal with the Ukrainian language,” added the head of the National Commission.
