Hundreds of passports and vaccination certificates of professional table tennis players and coaches have been leaked by an International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) system. The documents were stored in a publicly accessible folder of a cloud storage service.
The leak was brought to light by rtl extension News. The news site only made the leak public after the issue was fixed.
“Due to the data leak, the documents of at least four Dutch professional table tennis players were leaked,” a spokesman for the Dutch table tennis association (NTTB) told NU.nl. “We forwarded the report to the ITTF and informed the Dutch athletes and coaches involved.”
“The data leak was in a system of the ITTF and not in the systems of the Dutch federation,” emphasizes the spokesperson. “The leak has now been closed and the ITTF is investigating.”
The International Table Tennis Association says the data was only stored there for a short time. Furthermore, there would be no evidence that the personal information was consulted before the report.
