The carriage had non-opening windows, the temperature in the carriage reached 40 degrees
Passengers took care of themselves in a fast train from Burgas to Sofia. That’s what they shared eyewitnesses in front of the newspaper “Telegraph”. A life-threatening temperature was developed in a carriage of the train, which according to the schedule leaves at 3:20 p.m. from the seaside town.
“Even when getting into the train at Burgas station I realized that the salon was too hot. It was baked still on the station platform. It just didn’t have any pre-cooling. However, I thought maybe the A/C would work after take off. However, this did not happen“, he told “Telegraph” the passenger Kiril Stoyanov.
The problem with the incident that unfolded last Sunday was that the carriage had non-opening windows. Thus, the passengers had no way to counteract the heating atmosphere in the salon. They could not even move to another carriage, since the train was overcrowded and there was a lot of standing. With the departure of the composition from Burgas, the problem did not go away, but passengers measured the temperature of the floor and ceiling of the train with a thermal camera, which reached 40 degrees.
At a given moment a female passenger could not stand the brutal temperature and fainted, and a bunch of passengers rushed to greet her. Due to the unbearable heat, the crowd with the help of the service staff forced the pneumatic door of the wagon.
“People couldn’t stand it. At one point they chose to open the automatic door contrary to safety regulations in order to let at least some outside air enter the wagon,” Stoyanov described the situation.
Then a conductor managed to block the door in the open state and so the train traveled with natural cooling.
