About a hundred passengers were trapped in a stranded train for almost three hours between Amersfoort and Amsterdam. It was unable to continue around 6 p.m. due to damage to the overhead wires on the route between Naarden and Weesp.
Initially, an attempt was made to pick up the passengers with buses, but that did not work. The buses turned out to be too heavy for a bridge they had to cross. Therefore, another train was ordered to run as close to the stranded train as possible. At 8:50 pm the passengers were allowed to leave the stranded train. They were led to the replacement train on foot.
Four other trains that also came to a standstill were able to continue under their own steam earlier.
The repair to the overhead line will take hours. Buses run between Hilversum and Weesp. Travelers can also travel via Utrecht.
