Passenger trains resume service on the Serqueux line

From Monday March 29, four round trips are offered between Serqueux and Gisors from Monday to Friday to train passengers.

It has been twelve years since no passenger train had taken the railway line between Serqueux (Seine-Maritime) and Gisors (Eure). Since March 29, 2021, SNCF has offered four daily outings and returns from Monday to Friday. On weekends and public holidays, rotations will be by coach, which local elected officials regret. The restart of this line allows the inhabitants of the Pays de Bray to find themselves connected by train to Rouen, Paris, Abbeville and even Caen (Calvados). The shortest travel time is 39 minutes. The stations served include Gournay – Ferrières and Sérifontaine (Seine-Maritime).

A major modernization project

For three years, the Serqueux – Gisors line was closed to rail traffic due to works. The project aimed to ensure the sustainability of the infrastructures:

  • 9 level crossings removed
  • 1.3 km of track created
  • 34 changed points
  • 2000 catenary poles installed
  • 3 structures completed (two road bridges and a footbridge)

The site represented more than 100,000 hours of work.

Freight trains already in circulation

The Serqueux-Gisors line modernization project has created a new freight route to strengthen the rail service to the major seaports of Le Havre and Rouen, in order to support the growth of their activities and face competition from the ports. from northern Europe, they had to acquire the means to better irrigate their hinterland. However, the traditional Paris-Rouen-Le Havre route can no longer absorb additional trains. SNCF estimates the reduction in the share of greenhouse gas emissions at 20% thanks to the reinforcement of piggyback transport.

Which freight trains on Serqueux-Gisors tomorrow?

The new route will accommodate up to 25 freight trains per day (12 one way, 13 the other). This number of 25 trains is set by adding the constraints that concern each of the sections of the Le Havre-Valenton route: track maintenance periods, priority of passenger trains and stopping freight traffic at peak times. , respect for safety distances and speeds, etc.

  • Length of convoys: 500 to 750 meters.
  • Speed: 100 km / h, except at the Serqueux connection (60 km / h).
  • Transit periods: half between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., the other half during the day.
