In the third quarter, nearly 5.5 million passengers traveled via the five Dutch airports. That’s nearly 18 million, or 76.3 percent, less than the same period last year. The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reports this on Monday.
There were, however, considerably more passengers compared to the second quarter, when air traffic almost came to a standstill. “The number of air passengers increased in the third quarter compared to previous months after the relaxation of the measures against the coronavirus.”
Because slightly more people took the plane in the third quarter than in the previous months, the aircraft were also somewhat fuller on average. In the first two months of the year, before the corona virus reached Europe, the planes were as full as in the previous years, according to Statistics Netherlands. At that time an average of 76 percent of the seats were occupied.
In April, only 29 of the 100 seats were occupied. “In the summer months of July and August, the occupancy rate rose to 52 and 51 percent respectively and then reached 41 percent in September.”
