Jakarta –
A passenger traveling with her daughter was mistaken for a kidnapper and even a human trafficker by a flight attendant. To the extent that, the father was greeted by security officers after the plane landed.
This bad experience was experienced by a father named Francisco De Jesus. They flew from Seattle International Airport to Charlotte Douglas Airport on American Airlines.
“We were about to celebrate my oldest daughter’s graduation. You know, I mean, it was a great moment,” said De Jesus as quoted from King5, Tuesday (16/5/2023).
They boarded the plane with other passengers. The flight went smoothly until he went to the toilet to complete his wish.
“I got up to go to the toilet. When I came back my daughter had wings attached. I was like, ‘oh, where did you get that,'” he recounts.
Later, the child said that a flight attendant came and asked if he was all right, where was he going, and who was he going to meet?
De Jesus didn’t have any guesses about the wings that suddenly appeared and his son’s story. It was only after the plane landed that he realized the situation was anything but ordinary.
“When we got off the plane we were greeted by several people. One of them introduced himself as head of security at Charlotte International Airport,” said De Jesus.
De Jesus and his daughter continued to be escorted by security officers through the terminal. Her daughter started to get scared. He also kept wondering about the incident he had.
Only then did he receive information. The security guard explained to him that the flight attendant assessed there were signs of human trafficking.
“In that moment, my heart was broken,” said De Jesus.
“My question is how can they brand me as a trafficker? I had an iPad and we were watching a movie on that flight. He also had a phone. I mean, these are the things, I think, a father would do and traveling girls,” she said.
“I tried to contact American Airlines to find out and I got absolutely nothing out of them,” he said.
Sorry Airline
King5 contacted the airline American Airlines and responded. The airline at once apologized.
“Our frontline team members are trained to address a wide range of safety issues, including recognizing potential signs of human trafficking. We strive to create a positive and welcoming environment for everyone traveling with us and apologize for any misunderstandings that may occur.” airline information.
In an email, a spokesperson for American Airlines said team members had contacted De Jesus. In the process, De Jesus confirmed that he had been contacted by the airline.
