In the case of the traffic accident that occurred in the afternoon of Thursday 9 June took place on the East-West connection, 59-year-old Armand Cotin has died. He was together with 45-year-old Bertony C. in a car that slammed into the railing of a bridge, reports the Suriname Police Force today.
According to bystanders, Bertony must have been the suspected driver of the car. Bertony, who does not have a driver’s license, denies driving the vehicle. After medical treatment, he was taken to the police station for arraignment. After consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, he was taken into custody pending the investigation.
The police of the Richelieu bureau received a report around 13:51 that day that a car had hit the railing of the bridge on the East-West connection near the Oleanekreek and that there were serious personal accidents.
Once there, Armand showed no sign of life. A doctor officially determined the death of the traffic victim. Another male, Bertony C. (45) sustained injuries and required medical treatment.
According to the preliminary investigation, it is a one-sided traffic accident, in which Armand and Bertony with the vehicle in which they were sitting ran into the left bridge railing. The two drove on the aforementioned road, coming from the direction of Tamanredjo, going in the direction of Canawapibo.
It is suspected that the driver must have lost control of the vehicle for reasons unknown at km 24. The vehicle collided with the iron railing of the bridge with the disastrous result for Armand. The two victims had already been removed from the car before the arrival of the police.
Armand’s lifeless body has been seized for autopsy on behalf of the Public Prosecution Service (OM). The material damage of the vehicle is significant and has been seized by the police.
