In western Cameroon, 53 people were killed in a collision between a bus and a truck. 29 people were also injured, including several children.
The accident happened last night near the city of Dschang. A truck, illegally transporting fuel, hit the bus at high speed, which contained dozens of passengers. Both vehicles caught fire. The driver would have escaped.
The Secretary of Transportation has the incident investigated to “determine who is responsible” and “to take appropriate action”. He expressed his condolences to the relatives and wished the wounded who were admitted to the hospital in Dschang a speedy recovery.
More often fatal accidents
The bus was owned by a regional travel agency that provides transportation between cities. Last month there was also a serious bus accident in the central African country. Then 37 people died, including four children.
Fatal traffic accidents are a frequent occurrence in Cameroon, including poor maintenance of vehicles and roads.
