Canberra –
A passenger had to deal with security after breaking through the emergency door and trying to stop the plane from flying. It turns out he missed his plane and hopes his action can stop the plane.
Reported Yahoo News, Friday (3/11/2023) this incident occurred at Canberra Airport at 19.30 on Wednesday (1/11). A woman was filmed slowly circling the plane, wearing sandals and using her mobile phone as she approached. Even though the plane had already started the engine.
Luckily the pilot saw this woman. He waved his hand towards the pilot hoping that his presence would be noticed.
Then not long after, airport officials approached this woman. Turns out he missed his flight.
“(He) pushed past the staff at the door and ran onto the tarmac and ran towards the plane. Literally standing under it, next to the front wheels,” one tourist wrote on Facebook.
Luckily the pilot saw him, and turned off the engine, he then returned to the gate and ran out the door.
“Here’s the problem: it was no use, even with lots of staff around, no one stopped him. For safety reasons. If he had been at the cricket he would have been arrested in a mob,” the tourist continued.
Confirmation from airline
A Qantas spokesperson confirmed the woman used the emergency exit to access the tarmac. However, his reasons for approaching the plane could not be verified.
It is understood that the flight was delayed as airport staff arrested the woman before she was detained by police. Passengers were asked to remain on board the plane while officials cleared it to take off.
Australian Federal Police confirmed on Thursday that the woman was arrested and remains in custody.
“There are no flight delays and the airport is operating as usual. Further details will be provided in due course,” a police spokesman said.
