Details: Several wagons derailed and at least three caught fire after colliding near Tempe, a small town with major road and rail tunnels, about 380 kilometers (235 miles) north of Athens.

A hospital in the nearby town of Larisa said at least 25 people were seriously injured.

“The evacuation process is ongoing and is taking place under very difficult conditions due to the severity of the collision between the two trains,” said Vassilis Vartakoyiannis, a spokesman for the Greek Fire Service.

The passengers, who suffered minor or no injuries, were transported by bus to Thessaloniki, 130 kilometers (80 miles) to the north.

Railway operator Hellenic Train said there were about 350 passengers on board a passenger train heading north from Athens to Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city.
