Passat – the most demanded mid-size car in Europe Recently published Automotive News Europe data shows that Volkswagen has maintained its leading position in the mid-size car category in 2023 as well. Volkswagen Passat has been the most demanded model in Europe in this segment, with its sales increasing by 10% compared to 2022. On the other hand, medium-sized cars, including the Passat, are also in demand in Latvia.
Volkswagen, with the Passat and Arteon models, is in second place in the mid-size car category, with a combined 21% market share. In addition, the Passat alone has a 14% market share in this segment in Latvia.
The greatest Passat ever
The new Volkswagen has a 50 millimeter longer wheelbase compared to the previous model, which provides more space in the back. With a significantly increased boot space of up to 1,920 liters (previously 1,780 litres), the new Passat is ideal as an all-rounder for work and leisure.
Wide range of drives
The new Passat is available with a full range of petrol (TSI), diesel (TDI) and partial hybrid (eTSI) powertrains. For the first time, this model features a 48 V partial hybrid drive (1.5 eTSI with 110 kW/150 hp). The engine range also includes one 195 kW (266 hp) turbo petrol engine (4MOTION 2.0 TSI) as well as three turbo diesel engines (2.0 TDI) with 90 kW (123 hp), 110 kW (150 hp) and 142 kW (194 hp) power. An automatic Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) is standard and is the only option. Versions of the car with 195 kW and 142 kW power are available as standard equipment with the intelligently controlled 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. The other models have front-wheel drive.
Plug-in hybrid with a mileage of up to 100 km
A plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) drive system will also be available in Latvia, for which pre-sales will begin in the spring, while car deliveries are planned for the summer. The eHybrid models, which provide the opportunity to travel up to 100 kilometers with electric drive alone and charge them with up to 50 kW of power at direct current (DC) fast charging stations, are intended for drivers who want to cover relatively short distances with electric drive.
Premium class interior and comfort
Volkswagen has completely redesigned the cabin and improved its quality. The large-sized display is characterized by the 32.8-centimeter (12.9-inch) display included in the standard equipment, which is optionally available up to 38 centimeters (15-inch) in size. The car’s technical platform is based on MIB4, the latest generation of information and entertainment systems.
Passat also sets new standards in terms of comfort. This is especially true of the optional new adaptive chassis control DCC Pro. Thanks to two-valve shock absorbers, used for the first time in a Volkswagen car, it provides dynamics and higher comfort settings. The new Passat is also equipped with the Vehicle Dynamics Manager system for the first time. This standard system provides exceptionally neutral, stable, agile and precise handling.
Abundant standard equipment
The new Passat can be configured in four equipment versions: City, Business, Elegance and R-Line. Already in the basic equipment version, City has such elements as the new MIB4 display, Car2X warning system, App Connect, air conditioning system Climatronic with 2-zone temperature control, USB-C charging sockets with 45 W charging power in the front, black roof rails, LED headlights and LED taillight clusters.
The Passat’s standard equipment includes the most modern assistant systems – adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane change assistant Side Assist, collision avoidance warning system Front Assist, lane keeping assistant Lane Assist, assistance system for crossing intersections Front Cross Traffic Assist, automatic anti-rollback system Hill Start Assist, dynamic traffic sign display and rear view camera.
