Mission: Vassilis Nanis
With less than a month left for the European elections, political parties are entering the final stretch of their pre-election campaign. In this context, the president of PaSoK, Nikos Androulakis, made a four-day tour of Crete, showing that he is betting a lot on Megalonis, which is traditionally favorable to the party.
Vima followed the president of PASOK on his tour of the island, documenting the reactions of the people, the political climate and the pulse of a traditional election campaign at a time when political communication is now mostly done through social media.
Androulakis in all four prefectures – The reactions of the world
The president of PaSoK, spearheading, as usual, social issues, visited all four prefectures of the island and spoke face-to-face with the citizens in an effort to highlight the special problems of each region.
After all, Bousula was the successful pre-election campaign that the party “ran” in Crete before the national elections, which brought PaSoK to second place in three of the four prefectures of the island, with the sole exception of the prefecture of Chania.
The tour actually started from Chania, where Nikos Androulakis attended the anniversary event for the National Resistance in Ramni, Apokoronou municipality, on the occasion of the anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
“The European Union was created in the first place, so that war would not happen again, so that the peoples of Europe could live in peace, with respect for each other. We want a Europe of the solidarity of the peoples and not a Europe of the Franco-German ‘Axis’, said, among other things, in his speech at the event the president of the PaSoK.
Both in Chania, and the next day in Rethymno, the president of PASOK walked in the local markets, had meetings with traders and shopkeepers and talked with them listening carefully to their problems.
Rackets, precision and mandinades
An election campaign in Crete means of course rackets, lots of rackets and the president of PaSoK was treated to quite a few by the locals. A common point in the discussions with the citizens of Crete was the precision which affects businesses and households. As one would expect, there were not a few who had also prepared a mandinada for the president of PaSoK, who, as is known, draws his origin from the island.
Both in Chania and in Rethymnon, citizens showed particular interest in the tour, making it clear that PaSoK “has power”, at a time when it needs it especially to achieve the goal of taking second place in the upcoming European elections.
The warm welcome in Anogia
However, where everything really reminded of the glorious times of the 1980s for PaSoK was in the mountains of Rethymnon prefecture and specifically in the historic Anogeia, where the welcome to Nikos Androulakis was more than warm.
The PaSoK anthem echoed from the loudspeakers of the square as people filled the wonderful space under the plane trees in Maidani Square. Nikos Androulakis appeared against the background of a huge old PaSoK flag and spoke for about an hour to the applause of the locals.
In fact, seeing in the first rows a little boy with his father watching the speech, he did not hesitate to joke saying to him: “Be careful because my father used to take me to the PaSoK gatherings and you saw where I ended up.”
First place in a county – exclusive interview
Scenes like this one in Anogeia naturally lead Nikos Androulakis to be optimistic about the party’s course in Crete.
As he even stated in an exclusive interview with Vima, which you will have the opportunity to read and watch on video in the coming days, the goal of PaSoK is to take first place in one of the prefectures of the island in the upcoming European elections.
Arkalochori – Spili
Arkalochori, the birthplace of Nikos Androulakis, could not be missing from the tour of the president of PaSoK, which has been severely tested since 2021, when the Engelado hit the region. Even today, at least 400 people live in the settlement of the earthquake victims, which was visited by the president of PaSoK, stating:
“Three years after the devastating earthquake, Arkalochori is experiencing the indifference, abandonment and arrogance of the ND government. We are here as a parliamentarian to stand by the residents with our questions, with our effort to highlight the issue, because we believe that there is a great injustice in Arkalochori. A huge injustice that must be faced by the current government”.
In addition, Mr. Androulakis, who has set the health sector as a key axis of PaSoK’s policy, also visited the Health Center in Spili Rethymnon, which faces a very serious building problem.
“The problems are not the exceptions, they are the rule,” he emphasized during his visit. “The NSS is in the red,” he characteristically said. “For us, the health of citizens, whether rich or poor, is the most valuable asset. That is why we have as a priority to be reborn with a National health system, established by PASOK, in every corner of Greece” he concluded, while also having a meeting with the medical and nursing staff, who explained to him the serious problems he is facing.
