In less than 24 hours, the first ballots will be in the envelope and will fall into the PaSoK ballot box. Through this process the new president will emerge.
Nikos Androulakis and Haris Doukas are sharpening their swords for the last act of the duel that starts at 07:00 on Sunday morning in the electoral divisions of the country. The anxiety in the staffs of the two gladiators peaks and the labors of the last four months will bear fruit only for one of the two camps.
The battle of supports
The historical leaders of the faction were thrown into this battle, with Apostolos Kaklamanis, one of the co-founders of PaSoK, making a statement of support in favor of Nikos Androulakis, as MEP Yiannis Maniatis had done earlier. On the side of Haris Doukas was the MEP and son of the founder of PaSoK Nikos Papandreou, but also the husband of Fofi Gennimata Andreas Tsounis.
Additionally, the chiefs of staff of the two candidates are trying to find a channel of communication with the “captains” of Pavlos Geroulanos and Anna Diamantopoulos, in order to secure the support of important officials throughout Greece for the second round. These two co-candidates did not provide any support, so the battle to win over their low-ranking executives is great.
The last moves
Nikos Androulakis from his constituency of Thessaloniki, spoke to their supporters and tried to rally his voters. He called for mass participation in the polls and pointed out that “in front of us is the road of the new great change, of the new victory”.
Today (12/10) in the morning he will be in Larissa and in the afternoon he will speak in Ioannina, completing his last kilometers on a route that actually started on the night of the European elections, when he was challenged.
Haris Doukas published his last election spot, through his personal accounts on social media and later, he held a television interview in which he declared, among other things, that “I deeply believe in the overthrow” thus sending his own message of victory to his supporters.
Today, he will attend the flag-raising ceremony on the Holy Rock of the Acropolis, as it is the anniversary of the liberation of Athens from German occupation troops. He will later attend the laying of wreaths at the monument to the unknown soldier.
Against SMS
However, in the last few hours, an issue has arisen with the evening program of Haris Doukas, as messages have been sent with his name inviting people after 20:00 to “Kolokotroni 3”.
In this particular place are the offices of Pavlos Geroulanos. This is where Mr Geroulanos made his statements on the night of the elections. On the occasion of this message, a war has broken out on the internet between executives who supported Pavlos Geroulanos and those who are on the side of Haris Doukas, exchanging accusations about ethics and freedom.
