The recent debate of the PASOK candidates had two wrecks – which some are trying to highlight as a “model” of political confrontation, while it was nothing more than a mere gathering of general secretaries of ministries…
Haris Doukas passed under his arm and after Androulakis made a decal of him – in the style: “cut something, big guy” – he simply found it “indecent” to be told that he cannot be compared to Brad, Mitterrand or Erdogan .
Now he’s on a stalking rampage from the Androulaks and is complaining about “character assassination”. No one needs to kill him – he killed himself.
For Anna Diamantopoulou it was worse. The persona he planned to portray was undermined by two questions from Geroulanos and Katrinis. To the extent that he was speaking in the third person: “If you ask people, they will tell you that Diamantopoulou is PASOK”.
When the show ended, so did she. But in order to continue her mission, she increased her presence in the media, where she continues to talk about her “experience” and her ability to lead PASOK to the… government, once the national polls are held.
Political observers wonder: is she working herself or others? In 2012 she couldn’t even become a member of parliament, in 2024 – after her escape and the multi-year flirtation with Mitsotakis – why does she think she can become president of PASOK and prime minister?
Does he consider the other candidates that much inferior or his followers that much?

Now, mainly some right-wing media, they take it in cash. They encourage her to say – to those she had turned her back on, and fought for ten years, to save PASOK, which she claims now: “Comrades, be careful not to get stuck with SYRIZA”.
If Mitsotakis gets stuck, it doesn’t matter. Or if they take pictures hugging Adonis. But all the money is in “partners”. Someone on the Internet replied to her: “Do you also speak the SW like that?”

After the provocation, which she did with Gerulano – not to be elected, to become… her employee – and she came out sour.
The former “little Anna from Kozani”, growing up, was always appointed to some position as “PASOK” – no matter what changed inside PASOK. In 2014 she didn’t even want to hear it, in 2017 she failed to set up her own party against him and then she prayed for Mitsotakis to be independent.
But “it was always PASOK”. Except that as its president Fofi Gennimata didn’t know it and said: “Panhellenic knows that he has left PASOK since 2013”.
The self-presentation of the candidate for the party she has left is an artificial Balkan success story with verbal self-identifications and concealment of her path.
Curiously, however, the only thing he does not mention is that in 2008 he had managed to be invited to the infamous Bildeberg Club. Does she not consider it her success or is there another reason and she is afraid of being asked?

For the rest, the debate was indeed enlightening and useful for PASOK, but also for the citizens who follow its progress.
Doukas “had won some money at roulette and is losing it at barbuti”, in the words of a political actor. Diamantopoulou went to sell them “superiority” and they took her to the sidelines, showing that she is outdated and supposedly.
Of the rest, Androulakis, who did not do badly in the debate, if he stays in the end, PASOK will not gain anything more, but will keep what it has.
There remain the two bright faces of the televised match, but also of PASOK in general this period: Pavlos Geroulanos and Michalis Katrinis.
The only ones entitled to feel that they left the ERT studio with more points than they had when they entered.
According to the analysts, only with the “axis of seriousness” that they can form between them – one president, the other vice president and parliamentary representative – can PASOK hope to develop into a reliable center-left party with autonomy and perspective.
Not to win the next election. These are Androulakis and Diamantopoulos fumaras for lotus eaters. But to consolidate as one of the bodies shaping the next progressive government.
It’s not as close as the highbrows – or well-intentioned etherealists – imagine. But for that to happen, democratic parties with serious leadership are needed. With spinsters and decadents, PASOK will have the fate of SYRIZA – just as SYRIZA with weights has the fate of PASOK.
