In a letter to the chairman of the Social Affairs Committee, Giorgos Stylios, six MPs of the PASoK – members of the Committee emphasize that the conclusion includes various elements of opacity and mismanagement at the expense of patients, such as unclear, incomplete and inappropriate information to hospitalized patients from the EOPYY, but also non- legal “seat upgrades” during hospitalization in private clinics contracted with EOPYY.
The MPs report that the citizens complained that the EOPYY did not respond to their requests for information and control regarding the costing of their hospitalizations in contracted private clinics, as well as that the organization refused to charge the providers, amounts that the EOPYY has established that they were improperly charged or illegally demanded from the insured.
“Given that a rule of law must ensure, among other things, transparency, accountability and unhindered access to health services for citizens, we are asking for the hearing of the Minister of Health, Mr. Adonis-Spyridon Georgiadis, by the Standing Committee of Social Affairs according to Regulation of the Parliament (art. 41A & art. 43) in order to provide data and clarifications regarding the Opinion of the Citizen’s Ombudsman on the charges of private health institutions, the role of EOPYY as a social security organization and the required actions by the competent Ministry” , note the MPs of PaSoK.
