PASOK does not turn its back on high-profile personalities, even if they do not come from the center-left, if a person with these characteristics is nominated by the government for the Presidency of the Republic. After all, consensual solutions appear as a pursuit of the PASOK leadership, but always under conditions. It was taken a step further, after the intra-party ballot. It is not written in the stone of Harilaou Trikoupis, the position that the president of the Republic must definitely come from the center-left.
Although the leadership of PASOK-KINAL has often expressed the opinion that it is in line with the parliamentary tradition that PtD wants not to be from the ruling party, politics has a dynamic character and Nikos Androulakis knows this well, even though he is found the scenarios about the president of the Republic coming from the “blue” area have a negative content. Everything is open. Even for PASOK to discuss the prospect of PtD not coming from the center-left, since, however, it is, in his judgment, a prestigious personality of great political and social scope.
PASOK-KINAL press representative Kostas Tsoukalas left it open in his statements in an elegant but clear way. Kostas Tsoukalas described the PASOK Authority position, stating that “for the balance of the political system, we should have PtD from the Center-Left when we have a conservative government” (ERT News-24.10.2024), to add, however, that “every person, wherever it comes from, it has a certain burden and is also evaluated as a person”.
