The Prosecutor of the Supreme Court ordered an urgent preliminary examination for the “lost material” from the cameras, in the case of the Tempe tragedy, regarding the loading and departure of the commercial train involved in the fatal train accident. According to information from PASOK-KINAL, the prosecutor’s intervention took place at noon on Monday, November 18, 2024, following PASOK-KINAL’s request for judicial intervention, to investigate the reasons why the footage from the cameras of the Thessaloniki railway station, which was delivered by the managers of the management company to the Appellate Investigator of the Tempe case, did not contain the video recording of loading of the commercial train at the Thessaloniki engine room.
As pointed out by PASOK’s press representative Costas Tsoukalas, as of November 15, 2024, with a joint statement by the responsible K.T.E. of Justice, Institutions and Transparency of PASOK-KINAL Evangelia Liakoulis and the Secretary of the Justice Sector, Christos Kaklamanis, had requested the immediate intervention of the judicial authorities for “the lost footage from the cameras, in the case of the tragedy of Tempe”. He notes that this is the material that “could shed light on the exact cargo of the commercial train and which is possibly directly linked to the huge fire, the tragic death of 57 of our fellow human beings and the injury of dozens of passengers”.
Kostas Tsoukalas points out that convincing answers are needed immediately as to why the critical material was never handed over to the judicial authorities by the company that manages the cameras while clarifying that PASOK-KINAL “will continue with the same institutional commitment until the tragedy is finally cleared up of Tempes and the performance of responsibilities, whoever they touch”.
