PASOK: Fiesta for the birthday and conflict for the leadership – Which signatories of the declaration of September 3, 1974 will give the “present” – 2024-08-27 05:28:00

Politics is not done with the logic of …ripe fruit, nor with the version of communicating containers for filling a party reservoir from the leaks of ideological and social barriers of a collapsing border area. However, as the political crisis intensifies in SYRIZA-PS, the “combatants” for the leadership in PASOK-KINAL they are taking advantage of the situation that favors Harilaou Trikoupi to reap political fruits (with the hope that the treasure will not be coal) in the bet that continues for them to claim the primacy in the space of the center-left with the ultimate goal of government power. In this period where in Koumoundourou they continue to sow wind and reap storms, Harilaou Trikoupi “plays” liberally with the symbols of Greek social democracy (September 3, 1974). The leadership staff of PASOK-KINAL wishes to “attend” or to have some intervention in the event of September 3, 2024 in Zappeio historic figures from the time of the foundation of PASOK, even seeking to invite politicians from places beyond Harilaou Tricup!

At the same time, the contenders for the presidency (Nikos Androulakis, Pavlos Geroulanos, Haris Doukas, Nadia Giannakopoulou, Anna Diamantopoulou, Yannis Kanellakis and Michalis Katrinis) are fighting each other with the … rule for the time being, and at least until the date of submission of candidacy applications for the presidency of PASOK which will be accompanied by the required signatures of KPE members or party members, on Monday, September 9, 2024.

Of course, a source of internal party grumbling is the advantage that Nikos Androulakis has, from his position, as the current president of the party, of presiding both at the official event in Zappeio to celebrate the founding of PASOK on September 3rd and at the 88th International Exhibition of Thessaloniki (TEF ) as the head and official spokesperson of PASOK’s policy. That’s why all his opposition candidates for the leadership have taken care to organize separate events for the party’s 50th anniversary. At the same time, everyone (or almost everyone) is preparing for the open event on September 15, 2024 where the leadership contenders will present their “manifesto”, the framework of political positions for their party, for its expansion, for the reconstitution of the so-called progressive space and the center-left but also the vision/proposals of applied policy for the country.

However, these days for the executives of all the “tendencies” of Harilaou Trikoupis, it is important that PASOK be heard as loudly as possible, focusing on the 50 years since its foundation. After all, it is not a surprise that executives in parties that operate in the field of social democracy, the center-left and in general the progressive center, fight over who is the guardian of Andreas Papandreou’s PASOK policy. And if the descendants of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement are in Harilaou Trikoupi and have in their hands the historical thread that unites them with September 3, 1974 and the official seal, next to SYRIZA-PS, in the breaks of their internal party debates, but also besides this, they are quick to declare themselves fans of the values and principles of the “orthodox” Papandreia PASOK.

However, the official “guardians” of the seal of PASOK seek to give great glamor to the event for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the party by Andreas Papandreou. In fact, they wish to attend the Zappeion or to send messages, historical figures from those who had signed the text of the Declaration of September 3, 1974 and are alive! It is estimated that thirty of them, given the conditions, have been approached by the leadership staff of Harilaou Trikoupi. In a critical period for their party and with many disputes regarding the developments in the country, the leaders of Harilaou Trikoupis expect the history of PASOK to be highlighted, to be redefined as a continuation of Andreas Papandreou’s party and to strengthen the image of its rechristening for the political future of the space. Thus, the persons who signed the Idtyric declaration 50 years ago are also being sought.
It is characteristic that the journalist Giorgos Lakopoulos had clearly described what happened (and what preceded it) at noon on Tuesday, September 3, 1974, at the press conference during which Andreas Papandreou read the final text of seven pages and 2419 words entitled: “Founding Declaration of Basic Principles and Goals”. As he notes, the text began with a reference to “tragedy of Cyprus” and ended with the phrase: “Thus we will continue with new intensity and determination the struggle for an independent, socialist and democratic Greece”

According to Giorgos Lakopoulos, Andreas Papandreou, ahead of the press conference, had drawn up a list of 149 people he wanted to attend. In the end, few of them were absent, but many who were not on the list showed up, especially young people and students. The text of the Declaration bears the signature of all those present”.

According to his description, shortly before the interview began in the room of the then “King Pallas” hotel in Syntagma Square “there were about two dozen people”, with the most enthusiastic members of the student movement, among others Kostas Laliotis, Stefanos Tzoumakas , Petros Efthymiou, G. Vernikos, I. Tzortzis , Dim. Tzouvanos, Minas Stavrakakis, Meni Mallioris, Stefanos Manikas et al.

References are also made to Giannis Alevras, Antonis Livanis, Giannis Valaselis, a resistance member from the Panagouli group, George Katsifara, Dimitris Marouda and others. during his recounting, among others, Sakis Karagiorgas, Yiannis Charalambopoulos, Kostas Simitis, Yiannis Koutsocheras were sitting in the first row “and from the few women, Margarita Papandreou, Amalia Fleming and Silva Akrita”. some of whom left PASOK (early on, the most emblematic departure from the left was that of Sakis Karagiorgas and other resistance fighters against the Junta).

The first draft of the text of the Founding Declaration, according to George Lakopoulos, was written by G. Lianis, P. Mantas, T. Angelopoulos, Mich. Charalambidis, Sotiris Kostopoulos, G. Tsougiopoulos, I. Zafeiropoulos, A. Tsochatzopoulos and G. Papagianopoulos, while Manolis Papathanasopoulos and Damianos Vassiliadis also contributed to the final configuration – Angela Kokkola did the typing.
