PASOK: Androulaki’s high tones, article 16, and the “genitorial orders” – 2024-03-12 23:31:37

The reform for Education and non-state universities, for PASoK, started on Tuesday with the stormy, as it turned out, meeting of the Parliamentary Group and ended late on Friday night. A three-day consultation took place and through the parliamentary process, 159 MPs emerged who voted in favor. Number sufficient to pass and approve the bill.

Specifically, 158 MPs of New Democracy voted in favor of the Pierrakakis bill and one more independent MP was added to them. This is how the final number was formed. However, no other MP from the opposition supported the government’s bill. Among them were the members of the PASoK, who, after the party discipline imposed by the party’s president Nikos Androulakis, unanimously voted against a law that they described as a “settlement of interests”.

High tones and revelations Androulakis

The president of PaSoK, Nikos Androulakis, also used high tones during his speech, where he stated, among other things, that “the establishment of non-state non-profit branches of foreign HEIs voted by the government majority is an imitation of a reform that does not provide a comprehensive answer to the impasses faced by public education in our country at all levels.

Mr. Androulakis revealed, filing in the minutes a relevant document that shows, as he said, that some people knew the content of the bill and took the appropriate steps stating that “those concerned not only knew the content of the bill, but before it was even published they had notified the Competition Commission their intention to establish a branch in Greece”.

The president of PaSoK spoke about the communication mechanisms of the government that distort and target Harilaou Trikoupi’s positions, because, as he said, “you are afraid of the proposal, our progressive proposal, the different perspective, because you were used to populism and wishful thinking. You based your hegemony on fear of the worst. This is over. The Greek people now have another choice, with specific proposals for health, education, punctuality, the housing crisis, labor, and the development of the country. Start getting used to it,” he said.

The opposition to Article 16

At Charilaou Trikoupis, they stress that the leadership profile of Nikos Androulakis has strengthened these days, as PaSoK actually moved with proposals and highlighted them during the process. He listened to the students and the academic community and did not exercise one

sterile opposition discourse. At the same time, they point out that they have always been in favor of revising Article 16 of the Constitution for the creation of non-governmental and non-state institutions. But with a strong public university.

This is also one of the differences they have with the New Democracy and they stand by this but also by the “witness of fraud” as they characterized the position of the Minister of State Makis Voridis.

As they state in Harilaou Trikoupi “in the government, they refuse to commit to non-state non-profit universities in the context of the review of article 16, while all these days they claimed to be legislating “non-profit” annexes, at the same time as they wink at the funds that in four years they will be able to openly practice their extreme profit-making activity”. At the same time, they also accuse the Presidium of the Parliament of inappropriate methods as it silenced 10 MPs at the close of the meeting.

The janissary battalions of… Doudoni

One element that made a particular impression is the fact that during the meeting many MPs of the PASOK personally addressed the Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis in a strong tone. Many even remembered the years they were together in Harilaou Trikoupi and characterized him as a “janissary” who distorts the party’s positions.

The constitutionalist Panagiotis Doudonis said characteristically from the podium that “unlike you, gentlemen of New Democracy, I have voted for Mr. Pierrakakis in the European elections of 2014. Mr. Pierrakakis continues a tradition that goes back to Sultan Orhan and in 1327, that of the genocidals battalions. He came yesterday and today to the Parliament as the head of a janissary order against the democratic faction”.

This phrase of the janissary order was repeated by the president of PASoK Nikos Androulakis, when during the speech and addressing the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis he emphasized that “you have always been in New Democracy, you may not remember the position of PASOK, 20 years always in his program. Those who are today your ministers, and then our executives, and are fighting over who is the truest representative of the internal janissary order of the New Democracy, have they forgotten what they said 20 years ago? Hypocrisy, very big hypocrisy, because you always try to make white black,” he said
