After more than a decade of waiting, the Lantaño Park Underpass is about to become a reality. The regional governor, Óscar Crisóstomo, met with the residents and leaders of the Ultraestación sector at the headquarters of the Padre Hurtado Neighborhood Council, where the Housing and Urban Planning Seremi, Antonio Marchant, also participated, to inform them of obtaining the Favorable Recommendation ( RS), by the Ministry of Social Development, for the execution of the project, which will imply an investment of close to $20,000 million.
The works will allow to decongest the east-west connection of the northern sector of the regional capital, by means of an unevenness for vehicles and pedestrians that crosses the railway line. The initiative also considers the execution of bicycle lanes, sidewalks with inclusive mobility, improvement of green areas and the comprehensive improvement of the area to be intervened.
Given the magnitude of the project, the governor personally delivered the news to the residents of the sector, where he announced “that the underpass project in this sector has already been approved by RS (favorable recommendation). It is a highly characteristic work, with an investment of close to 20,000 million pesos that will be financed by different institutions and ministries in order to make it feasible, in the coming months, to start the works”.
The highest regional authority stressed that “this will benefit more than 20,000 people who live in this sector, one of the arteries that today has more road conflicts and where the strategy that we have also been able to see with EFE, implies an improvement of this step . In this project, which is going to be materialized by the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism, the SEREMI has personally taken care of its processing, and has also allowed other ministries and other institutions to be involved, such as EFE, which has been an active participant in these initiatives. that will benefit the inhabitants of the commune of Chillán”.
Within the next few months, the financing route for the project should be resolved, which consists of a dual carriageway crossing under the railway line, on Lantaño and Avenida Ecuador streets for a length of 0.45 kilometers, which will expedite delivery times. displacement of those who inhabit the sector t also provide security for both vehicle drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
Master plan
The Housing Seremi, Antonio Marchant, maintained that the ministry has a road decongestion master plan and explained that “one of its items is focused on the Parque Lantaño sector, because we see an increase in housing projects in the sector and in the automotive fleet, which that has complicated the sector, and has transformed it into an area of high traffic jams at peak hours. That is why we already have a road project that consists of a high-standard underpass with a double lane with a cycle path, with LED lighting, which would allow a better quality of life for the families who live in the sector and reduce journeys and displacement”.
Regarding the progress of the project, he added that its design stage is completed, with the recommendation by the Ministry of Social Development and “we are in the process of being able to join forces to finance this very important project for the residents of the sector.”
