Pas-de-Calais: a woman dies a week after being burned, her companion imprisoned

Plunged into a coma, the victim died Tuesday, following his serious injuries. A week earlier, Sandy, 33, had been burned in a car in Bully-les-Mines (Pas-de-Calais). Facts for which his companion was indicted and imprisoned, we learned on Wednesday from the Béthune prosecutor’s office.

According to La Voix du Nord, on the night of Tuesday 10 to Wednesday 11 November, around 1 a.m., this young woman’s companion had sprayed her with gasoline before lighting the fire. According to France Blue, who adds that the facts would have taken place at the end of an argument, a resident tried to extinguish the victim with a blanket.

His designated companion to the firefighters

The voice of the North specifies that his concubine was burned on more than 70% of his body and was able, upon the arrival of the firefighters and before being placed in a coma, to designate his companion as the cause of his injuries. It had been a week since the vital prognosis of this mother of four children, born of a previous union, was engaged, before she died on Tuesday.

In this case, a judicial investigation had been opened before the death of the victim for attempted homicide by spouse. His companion, a 33-year-old man who had, according to La Voix du Nord no complaint or mention in his record for domestic violence, was placed in detention, said the prosecutor of the Republic of Béthune, Thierry Dran. “The respondent contested any intentional nature of the act during the flagrance investigation,” said the magistrate. He would have, according to France Bleu, only assured to have lit a cigarette.

With this case, at least 68 feminicides have occurred since the beginning of the year, according to a count conducted by AFP. In 2019, 146 women were killed in France by their partner or ex-partner, 25 more than the previous year, according to official figures
