Partyless MP Den Haan is considering switching to another faction

Liane den Haan, of the Den Haan faction, is “seriously considering” joining another party in the House of Representatives. That’s what she tells the NOS.

Den Haan entered the House of Representatives as the only MP for 50Plus more than three months ago, but resigned shortly afterwards from the elderly party. Since then she has been a non-party member of parliament.

Three parties have “concretely” asked her to join them, says Den Haan. “I often hear: you are content.”

Which party then?

She does not yet want to say which parties are interested. In the past she was a member of the city council of Woerden, first for D66, after about a year she switched to Progressief Woerden, a partnership of PvdA and GroenLinks.

Den Haan will make a decision after the summer, she says. Another option is to set up your own party. “I have a long recess to think about it.” The condition is that she can continue to defend the interests of the elderly.

There is no regulatory objection to switching; MPs are free to join another political group. If Den Haan does it, the number of factions in the House will be reduced from eighteen to seventeen.
