Partygoers wait 2-3 hours in a traffic jam…

Nightmarish traffic jams are plaguing motorists on their last day off around the new year. Traditionally, many people from Plovdiv, who rushed out of town to celebrate, travel today to go home, because they have to be at work tomorrow.

Returning party-goers warn on social networks that there are hellish traffic jams on the Smolyan-Plovdiv and Karlovo-Plovdiv roads. “Severe traffic jam in the direction of Plovdiv. Chepelare-Asenovgrad – two hours and 15 minutes driving time,” said a female driver, heading towards the city under the hills. “After Narechen do Bachkovo – no movement, we are standing still,” says a man behind the wheel, moving on the same road.

With fewer waits, but just as many nerves, is the journey along the sub-Balkan road. Both routes are heavy with police patrols doing their best to ease the traffic.

Drivers are advised to take extra care and drive at an appropriate speed.
