Dilan Yesilgöz (VVD) says that her party will not enter a cabinet due to the loss of seats. The party will, however, support a centre-right cabinet as a kind of tolerating partner.
“The big winners are the PVV and NSC. After thirteen years, a different role suits us. The voter also said: VVD, skip a round,” said faction chairman and party leader Yesilgöz. “But we will make a center-right cabinet possible. We will support constructive proposals, so it is a form of tolerance.”
Yesilgöz points out that the party lost ten parliamentary seats in the elections. “That is almost a third, and a signal from the voter. But we are not going to turn our back on all the people who voted for us.”

PVV leader Wilders reacts disappointed to the VVD decision. He says it doesn’t make the formation “any easier.” “The formation may now take months. Ms Yesilgöz has not made it easier for her voters.”

Yesilgöz made the announcement just before the start of the meeting with Chamber President Vera Bergkamp where PVV senator Gom van Strien was appointed as a scout. Other faction leaders who entered the House of Representatives for this conversation also reacted with surprise.
“I’m still a bit bewildered,” says Caroline van der Plas (BBB). “I think it’s a bit premature that you decide that just like that before everyone has been spoken to.”
NSC leader Omzigt also said that it was not his style to announce the decision like this, but added that that is up to each party. CDA faction leader Henri Bontenbal agreed that the formation is not getting any easier.
At the request of the PVV and with the consent of the other parties, scout Van Strien will investigate which coalitions are possible. He must also determine what the first discussions with the party leaders should be about.
