Brecht Piersma from Sneek and Desy Poiesz from Vegelinsoord both came into action today at the European Beach Volleyball Championships, which are taking place in their own country this week. They are the only Frisians participating. Piersma plays with Wies Bekhuis in pool C and Poiesz with Mila Konink in pool A.
Both women lost their first match. Poiesz and Konink lost 2-0 (21-15, 21-13) to their Lithuanian opponents and Piersma and Bekhuis lost 2-0 (25-23, 21-18) to their Latvian opponents.
In the evening they had to come into action again. Poiesz also lost the second match, against a Czech duo, with 2-0 (21-19, 21-16). But Piersma and Bekius managed to win the last match of the evening against their French opponents, with 2-1 (22-24, 21-19, 15-12).
Both duos have advanced to the knockout phase as number three in their group.
