Romania’s defense minister says parts of what may have been a Russian drone fell on Romanian territory. In that case, it is serious, says the president.
On both Monday and Tuesday, Romania’s government rejected Ukrainian information that Russian drones had detonated and fallen over Romanian territory.
On Wednesday, however, Defense Minister Angel Tilvar opened up that parts of what may have been a drone fell in Romania. Whether it is the same Russian drone that was mentioned on Monday is unclear.
– I confirm that parts that may have belonged to a drone have been found, says Tilvar, according to HotNews.
Furthermore, he says that the area where these parts were found was not evacuated because it was assessed that they posed no threat.
– An inadmissible and serious breach
Both the defense and foreign ministries and President Klaus Iohannis have rejected the claims that a Russian drone fell on Romanian territory. They have also said that Russian attacks are not a direct threat to Romania.
On Wednesday, however, Iohannis says that it could be a serious breach of sovereignty.
– If it is confirmed that the parts belonged to a Russian drone, such a situation is unacceptable and a serious violation of Romania’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, says the president.
Since July, when Russia withdrew from the so-called grain agreement that ensured the safe export of grain and other foodstuffs via the Black Sea, it has attacked several Ukrainian ports located along the Danube River, which borders Romania.
