The Surinamese police officially announced on Tuesday that 41-year-old Andy Grantsaan (Scot) was burned alive on Saturday December 25 after being poured over with petrol. After working out the information obtained, the partner of the victim, 41-year-old Sandy H., was portrayed as a suspect, the Suriname Police Force reported.
The preliminary police investigation revealed that the man was sitting on the balcony of his home in the Para district on that particular day when the case took place. His 41-year-old wife was not found when the Para police arrived at the home address.
With 3rd degree injuries all over the body, the victim was taken to the Emergency Department of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo. He was admitted to hospital for nursing, but died in the hospital on the eve of that same day.
The investigation in this case was handed over to the detectives of the Capital Crimes Department. After working out the information obtained, partner Sandy was shown as a suspect. She was traced and arrested in the afternoon of Sunday 26 December at a residential address in Paramaribo.
At the time of her arrest, she denied committing the offence. Sandy told the police that the man committed the crime himself. It should be mentioned that the balcony where the man sat has suffered scorch damage.
Andy’s lifeless body has been seized for autopsy by order of the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service (OM), while Sandy has been taken into custody in the interest of the investigation.
