Spain is no longer what it used to be: Lionel Messi, one of the all-time greats in round leather, is leaving FC Barcelona, Cristiano Ronaldo has long left Real Madrid – oh Dios mío, that’s why David Alaba is there now .. .
But we don’t want to talk about decline, but about the eternal either-or questions that divide opinions. Messi or Ronaldo, dribbling against strength, whoever is more ingenious, that’s such a ghost separator. Like the Beatles or Rolling Stones (later Sweet or Slade, Ed Sheeran or Justin Bieber), which divides music fans.
Mercedes or BMW. Rapid or Austria. Märklin or Kleinbahn. Coca-Cola or Pepsi. Facebook or Instagram. Fries or liver dumplings – the whole of life is a single commitment to one thing or the other.
Both went so well (okay, Mercedes and BMW, it takes space). Or, speaking of football, neither of the two, and one suffers quietly and happily with the Viennese sports club.
