Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – According to the NRW Greens, North Rhine-Westphalia misses its climate protection obligations by crashing. Traffic is responsible for a fifth of emissions, and a traffic turnaround is urgently required, according to a key proposal from the state executive committee for a small digital party conference. Around 100 delegates are to discuss how the health burden from air pollution can be reduced, especially on busy main traffic axes.

The lead proposal calls for more space for pedestrians and cyclists in NRW. Half of all distances covered are shorter than three kilometers. For longer distances, a stronger network of buses and trains is needed, as well as more emission-free means of transport. The aim should be to stay mobile even without your own car. So far, only 8.5 percent of the routes in NRW have been covered by bus and train. “There is still a lot of room for improvement,” said the application.
